Helping Parent at Giacomo's school
Both kids go to "cooperative" schools. Which means that you have to be a Helping Parent throughout the school year. At Dorian's school it is required about once a month, and Giacomo's school is only twice a year.
Since Giacomo goes to a "progressive" school, the most important part of their curriculum is based on "block building". You can learn everything from block building.
On Monday, the kids decide what they are gooing to build and build it. On Tuesday, they make the details, signs, people etc. On Wednesday, they have Visiting Day, and give tours of what they built to their friends. On Thursday, they clean up.
Here are pics from Tuesday, "details day".
Also, the Helping Parent can choose to do an activity with the class or read them a book. I decided to read the book Green Eggs and Ham, then I brought in some Dr. Seuss Mazes, and some of the kids chose to do the mazes. They can always choose what they want to do, nothing is forced.
